Beneath that frictionless promise lies a protocol architecture that is the polar opposite of the decentralized ethos that birthed Bitcoin. KuCoin Pay is not a chain, not a smart contract, and not a peer-to-peer network. It is a centralized payment routing layer, operated entirely by the KuCoin exchange, that sits between the user's custodial balance and the local payment systems of six countries—and counting.
The core mechanic is deceptively simple. A user in Brazil selects "Pay with KuCoin" at checkout. The app generates a Pix QR code from the merchant's terminal. The user scans it with his KuCoin app, selects which cryptocurrency to debit (USDT, KCS, or one of 50+ others), and confirms.
